Welcome to Family Life

The Family Life Center is congregational and community outreach of First Church. Its mission is to enhance the spiritual, social, emotional and physical well-being of individuals and families on life’s journey by providing programs, resources and services which focus on the education, healing and support of the whole family.  Plus we have a lot of fun together!

Family Life sponsors various activities and programs, from an all-ages Sweetheart dance to our fall annual golf tournament to raise money for cancer research, from a trip to the Connecticut Science Center to baseball games and theater performances.  We have offered first aid classes, as well as installing AED devices in several locations of the church.

Our Prayer Shawl Ministry meets every third Monday in the Meetinghouse. A prayer shawl is a shawl that has been knit with special prayers of healing, comfort, love and support woven into the stitches.  All are welcome—if you don’t know how to knit, we will teach you!

"Part of the journey of prayer and faith is to recognize that we may never know how our love and care will touch or change another person's life. Instead, we are invited to offer others our compassion and let whatever needs to happen, happen. There is an old saying, “Our hands are God's hands.” Through the shawl-knitting ministry we can learn to trust the truth that God works through us when we care for our friends and strangers alike.”

We have a Scrapbooking Club that meets Saturdays on a monthly basis.

Our Grown Up Girls Group has offered cooking demonstrations and outings to see plays, as well as rousing games of Bunko.

We have a Book Club that meets monthly during the program year that always has lively discussions of books covering a broad spectrum of both fiction and non-fiction.

These are just a few of the programs we offer. The Family Life Board is a vibrant and integral part of our congregation. Check our website, the bulletin or the Spire for upcoming events and activities.  Please feel free to contact the church office if you are interested in participating in any of the events or if you would like to be part of our Board.
