Weddings

Are you considering a wedding at First Congregational Church?

We are pleased to be a part of your special day. We celebrate marriages for both members and non-members, as well as traditional and same-sex couples.

A wedding is one of the most significant events in your lives, and all care and thoughtfulness should be taken. The service should authentically reflect the uniqueness of you as a couple and a new family. Much will be done along those lines in the counseling sessions with the pastor, but ultimately it is up to you to make this your wedding and not merely a formality.

The following is a brief introduction to what you can expect. The initial contact should be with the pastor to obtain approval, clear dates and arrange for counseling.

Please contact the church office at 203-265-1691.

More detailed information is available through the church office.

Counseling
It is expected that the couple will meet with the pastor a minimum of three times prior to the rehearsal. These sessions deal with basic issues in a marriage from a Christian point of view, building the wedding service, and any concerns which may arise.

Fees and Honoraria
Please contact the church office for a breakdown of the fees and honoraria for use of the Sanctuary, Minister, Organist, and Sexton and use of candle torches.

The Service
The marriage service is a worship service—a sacred rite. The assembled people of God join with the bride and groom to contribute to the spirituality of the service.

As in any worship service, the texts and music are to be chosen with care and discrimination. They are a major dimension of the worship service, and should correspond to the themes which are inherent in a Christian marriage service.

Music
The church organist is in charge of the music unless other arrangements have been made and approved by the pastor. You should contact the organist soon after the wedding day has been determined, since the organist will need time to prepare the music you have chosen.

Other Clergy and Participants in the Service
Discuss any wishes along these lines with the pastor in your first conversation.

Receptions
Receptions may be held in Congregational Hall or in the Williams Room. Caterers or others working on the reception are asked to clear with the church office ahead of time. No alcoholic beverages may be served in the church building.

We are honored to be part of this new relationship! Please call on our church staff regarding any ques-tions you may have or assistance you may need. We will be glad to help you.
