Magical Melodies--A 350 Year Celebration!

Magical Melodies--A 350 Year Celebration, held on Friday, October 17, was a truly magical evening of music filling our sanctuary. Our Chancel Choir, Praise Band, Bell Choir and soloists were joined by the acappella women's chorus Silk'n Sounds and Flute Loops, an amazing all-flute ensemble.

The concert was planned in honor and celebration of First Church's 350th Anniversary.  The music ranged in genre from Broadway show tunes and musicals to praise music to sacred hymns and anthems.

The program opened with songs from "The Sound of Music", recalling a wonderful memory in the life of our congregation, when members of all ages produced the musical.

Special guests Silk'n Sounds then offered several show tunes, with great flair, fun styling and a wonderful blend of voices.

The Chancel Choir, along with members of the Flute Loops, pivoted to sacred melodies, such as "When in Our Music God is Glorified."

The Praise Band brought a different kind of joy and magic with their guitars, percussion, keyboards and voice.

The Flute Loops, an ensemble made up entirely of flutes, astonished many in the audience with their beautiful sound.

The tones of the church Bell Choir rang throughout the sanctuary.

Combinations of musicians from the different choirs and ensembles joined together to offer a variety of songs.

The concert's last songs were music for the spirit, with "It is Well with my Soul", "Imagine", and ended with a call to peace, as the entire audience sang "Let There Be Peace on Earth."

Following the concert, there was a well-attended reception, where everyone basked in the glow of a wonderful event.

We give thanks to all who planned, rehearsed, practiced and fulfilled a musical vision.  We especially thank Jeanette Gross, our Minister of Music, for having that vision and bringing it to fruition.

It truly was a magical, spirit-filled, joyous concert and a gift to our community.
